Cartridge filters are simple and modular water filters that are positioned into a Big Blue housing and are used to remove particles, contaminants, bacteria, and sometime chemicals, from your water. Each filter removes a particular type of compound, resulting in purified water.
Big Blue water filter cartridges are a part of the Big Blue water filtration system. The standard 3 Stage Big Blue Water Filtration System with 55W UV Sterilizer is suited to purify rainwater and municipal water. It can process wellpoint water if it does not contain salt or heavy metal/ mineral pollutants. The 55W UltraViolet light neutralizes bacteria, protozoa and spores (including E.coli and Giardia).
The standard replacement pack includes a complete set of 3 filter cartridges (5-micron sediment filter, carbon block filter, 1-micron sediment filter) suitable for most rainwater and municipal water filtration needs in South Africa.
What are the 3 stages of Big Blue Water Filters used for rainwater purification?Stage 1: Sediment filter (5 Micron)
The 5 micron sediment filter removes mud, rust, dirt, floating particulates or any other large particles
Stage 2: Carbon block filter
The carbon block filter reduces fine sediment, chlorine taste and the concentration of heavy metals such as lead and copper
Stage 3: Sediment filter (1 Micron)
The 1 micron sediment filter further removes contaminants, oils and up to 60% of bacteria
What you will need to change a cartridge:
- 1 x Big Blue water filter system
- 1 x Big Blue spanner
Cut off the water coming into and out of the Big Blue filtration system
Remove the filter housings off the system using the Big Blue spanner and remove the current filter/s (keep them in the same order: 5-micron, carbon block, 1-micron!)
Remove the plastic from the new filter/s and place it on the system using the Big Blue spanner
Once the cartridge is in place, open the water coming into the Big Blue filter system. If water leaks out, tighten the Big Blue
Push the red button on top of each Big Blue vessel until water bleeds out to remove any air
Open the water coming out of the Big Blue system
